I'm working on improving the localization of OpenCivic (https://drupal.org/project/opencivic) into other languages. Spanish is highest priority, but other key languages are also important. In future this will be used for improving the multilingual capability of Europe Commons (http://www.europecommons.org/) and for similar application catalogues for other regions of the world such as Latin America.

I have a large .po file of most of the OpenCivic strings translated by the Esade Business School (Esade are a partner on Code for Europe). However they do not have knowledge of Drupal. I have been working on adding multilingual support into OpenCivic, but do not have any useful language skills (hence the English post in an otherwise Spanish forum!).

I understand I could submit a .po file, also I have a site setup with the localization client installed. What is the best way to get all the strings for OpenCivic into this site, such that a new install of that distro would download all the strings when a new language is added?

I'm also aware that the translation from Esade might have some review comments as it was done largely without too much context of the project. Any suggestions on how to help with that are welcome.

Hi pmackay,

I'm a native Spanish speaker from Puerto Rico and would love to help translate. I recently started working on my own multilingual Drupal site again so I'm sure I'll pick up some things along the way that could be helpful to the OpenCivic translation. Others will probably be able to provide better technical help than I can, though.

Hi @pgacv2, that would be great if you would like to help with translations :) I have a test site setup here:

which has a large majority of strings translated but not all. I'm assuming the best way to complete the translation would be to use the translation UI at the bottom of the page that shows translated and untranslated strings. I believe they should then get submitted to this site.

I'm sorry for taking a while to respond. My time is being occupied with a few things and unfortunately I won't be able to contribute directly to translating right now. I will, however, look through the project and comment if I see a place where I can help.
